Summary:Specializes in assessment and treatment of speech and language problems and engages in speech and language intervention services for children in Kalamazoo County with a culturally responsive lens. Multidisciplinary role, providing strategies and support to colleagues and families around language and communication as well as supporting other areas of development within a primary service provider model.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform developmental assessments for children aged 0-3

• Reinforces home-based activities designed to support child’s optimal development through regular home visits

• Develops individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) for family and child

• Advocates for optimal child development opportunities for families

• Maintains records as required by law and administrative regulations

• Use evidenced-based coaching to collaborate and teach caregivers about developmental expectations

• Collaboration with other home visiting and social service agencies to support the whole child and whole family

• Promotes public awareness for early intervention

• Reviews student files to obtain information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and to ensure that adequate information is available.

• Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.

• Attends MET, IEP and/or IFSP meetings.

• Collaborates with local districts to develop and implement individualized plans for assigned students to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities.

• Reviews treatment plan, and assesses individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs.

• Models language facilitation techniques in home, daycare, preschool and community sites, providing training on language learning activities.

• Maintains records as required by law and administrative regulations.

• Acts as consultant to educational, medical, and other professional groups.

• Regular and consistent attendance

Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Kalamazoo RESA handbook.

 

 

 

 

Education and/or Experience: 

Master’s degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Speech and language.   Preferred experience in Early Childhood setting.

 

Certificates, License, Registration:

Valid LARA License in Michigan required. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from American Speech, Language and Hearing Association optional.
